Top reasons to visit Costa Rica
COSTA RICA: Pura Vida
When to Go
From December to April, it is the dry season, making it the best time to visit the country without encountering rain and floods. This will allow you to enjoy the landscape and beaches.
What to Do
From jungle treks, mountain trails and zip-lining through the treetops to fabulous tanning beaches, Costa Rica is a tropical paradise with all kinds of adventures to choose from. What's more, the country's small size means you can move from one landscape to the next with relative ease. If you're visiting the country for the first time, you can't leave without taking a drive from San José to La Fortuna. Take a stroll along the slopes of Arenal Volcano Land, and don't forget to visit Monteverde. On the coast, enjoy paradise at Tamarindo beach and further south Montezuma.
Must-Eat Dishes
There is an endless list of delicacies, but we recommend three dishes to try in Costa Rican gastronomy.
Casado: the most common meal consists of beans, rice with red peppers and onions, fried plantains, a cabbage salad with tomato and carrot, and a meat selection with grilled onions.
Ceviche: the best recipe is made with local tilapia or Corvina (white sea bass) and coriander, garlic, chilli, onion and celery.
Gallo Pinto: the quintessential breakfast. Rice and beans mixed together, fried or scrambled eggs, minced meat, fried plantains and tortillas.
Fun Facts
One of the most extraordinary facts about Costa Rica is that the country generates most of its energy using five renewable sources: hydroelectric, wind, geothermal, biomass and solar.
Miss Wood Tip
The timetables are a bit different from ours. There are 12 hours of sunshine, from 6am to 6pm. So get used to getting up early and going to bed early. It's a slow country, where the concept of time is very relative. Just take it easy.
