A practical step-by-step guide, perfect if you have a framed world map or custom framed photos, but it can also be used for any type of canvas or painting - read on to find out!
What type of wall do you have? The essential difference between a wall and a partition.
· Wall: It has a structural function, supporting beams, slabs, or plates. It is also called the bearing wall, generally made of concrete.
· Partition wall:: its function is to separate spaces; it is used for division and is usually made of plasterboard.
You can distinguish the two by tapping on them and seeing if they are hollow or solid. In the case of a partition wall, pay attention to the weight of the frames, as they should not exceed 4.5 kg. You will also need special dowels for plasterboard, which we will explain later.
The most common wall coverings or friezes are:
Plaster:
Wallpaper:
Tiles:
· Brick: often used in industrial or rustic decor, it also requires a special drill and nails if you want to bore it.
· Wooden panels an excellent thermal insulator that gives a warm and comfortable look.
Important: Before drilling a hole, ensure that no electrical cables or pipes are behind it. Here is a stud-finder that will be very useful.
Depending on this, choose the system you are going to use. Here are the different ways to do it and the most suitable for each.
Dressing up your place with elements that you like and make you feel identified gives it personality and a sense of coziness. Family portraits, holiday snaps, illustrations, film posters, works of art…
The safest and most resistant option to changes in temperature, wind blowing, and eventual damage is to make a hole in the wall. Then, when you get tired of a photo or a print, all you have to do is take it off and change it for another poster or canvas.
We will explain step by step how to hang a picture on the wall with a drill, but first, you should familiarize yourself with the materials we will use::
Hooks:
Dowels:
Plastic pieces used to secure the screw to the wall or piece of furniture. They are inserted once drilled, and their thickness should be proportional to the size of the bit you used.
*If you have laminated plaster (plasterboard), you will needspecial dowels.
L-hooks:
The tools you will need to make holes are the following:
· (1) A hammer to fix the dowels into the wall
· (2) A pencil to mark where to make the hole on the wall
· (3) A bit appropriate for the type of wall and the size of the hole. *The bit is the part that goes into the drill and, by turning, makes the holes in the wall
· (4) A drill
· (5) A measuring tape to calculate the distance between the holes and the paintings
1- Mark the exact position.
First, measure and note the distance between the hook and the edges, then mark the corners with a pencil, using a spirit level to ensure it is straight. Finally, remove the frame. Now you can also trace the position of the hook.
*Other tips for marking positions:
-Draw a small mark directly on the wall on the inside of the hook with a pencil, applying light pressure to know exactly where to drill.
2- Choose the location and set the height
If you want to place the frame on an empty wall, we recommend placing it at approximately eye level for an average person, or about 150 cm - 170 cm. If there is furniture underneath, like a sofa or a bed, leave a 15-30 cm distance between the two elements.here are some basic rules to keep in mind.

How to hang a painting with nails
Una alternativa a hacer agujeros en la pared sin usar taladro es el uso de clavos o cuelga fácil, sobre todo si lo que vas a colocar en la pared es de poco peso, menos de 2,5kg.
You will only need a hammer to tap the nail into the wall with a few quick and light blows. Use this method on smooth walls, plasterboard, or wallpaper. Do not use it on other types.
Paintings or objects weighing less than 2.5 kg:
Usa clavos de unos 2 cm de largo e introduce ¾ en la pared. Coloca un trozo de cinta adhesiva antes de perforar para evitar grietas. Retíralo al finalizar.
Paintings or objects weighing more than 2.5 kg:
Utiliza clavos más largos, de unos 3 cm e introducelos hasta el revoque grueso o estructura de ladrillo.
