FORMENTERA: Peace, Nature and Hippie Vibes.
When to Go
May and October: Nowadays, this island triples its population during the summer months, with May and October being the best time to visit Formentera and enjoy it to the fullest.
What to Do
The island of Formentera, 20 km long with a population of 12,111, is a beautiful place to get away from it all. The pace of life is languid and joyful. The days pass peacefully on some of the most exquisite beaches in Europe: white sandy beaches lapped by incredible blue, turquoise and lapis lazuli waters. Tourism is strictly controlled environmentally; there's not much to see, and nightlife is sparse.
Must-Eat Dishes
Formentera offers a seafood cuisine, with many fishy options: fish stews, salted fish, grilled fish, fried fish and rice dishes. Dishes such as Bullit de Ratjada (skate fish stewed with almonds, dry fruit typical of the island), monkfish cassolana style, bonito casserole with fennel and capers and bull d'anfos (cooked grouper vegetables and offal). And not to be forgotten, the goat's and sheep's cheeses, sun-dried figs, and flaó, the goat's cheese-based cake typical of Easter. Last but not least, to lighten up your meal — and to digest faster! — try Frígola or other herbal liqueurs.
Fun Facts
Have you ever heard that Formentera is a cheese? The explanation is quite simple: the island is full of caves, underground passages and grottoes due to its peculiar geomorphological formation. Some of the most popular caves are Cova d'Estrips, Cova Foradada, Cova des Fum or the ones you can find in Cala en Baster (Cala Envasté). If you have the chance, enjoy a trip to Punta Rasa's sea caves, accessible by kayak or paddle surf. A must-see, they are impressive!
Miss Wood Tip
Let yourself be carried away by one of Formentera's most emblematic spectacles: the flamingo migrations in Estany Pudent (in the Ses Salines Natural Park). We recommend you go a little before sunset to get a unique postcard of your visit.
